Slideshow - Memories of Bob

Robert E. McFall.....What a Life!

Bob McFall, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 in Southport, N.C. with his loving wife, Barbara by his side.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl William McFall; his mother, Zola Lorraine Danner McFall; his first wife, June Dickey; and his two brothers, Paul Wayne and Donald Eugene McFall.

Bob lived a full and exciting life. He was born on September 24th, 1923 in El Dorado Kansas, grew up with five brothers in a series of “oil-patch towns”. He attended Texas A&M for 2 years before WWII, and graduated from Principia College in Elsah, Illinois when he returned.

“Mac” was a Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew a C-46 affectionately called “the Bad Penny -068” because she always came back. Bob flew more than 500 successful missions over the “Hump” in China/Burma/India - with incredible experiences.

Bob lit up the world for family, friends, and countless others who knew and loved him. A strong but gentle giant of stature and personality, he never met a stranger. He loved rainbows, “dreamed the impossible dream”, lived by Rudyard Kipling’s “IF” (treating “triumph and disaster just the same”), and only spoke about the good in others. He will be sorely missed.

The consummate competitor, Bob was an entrepreneur, who considered business as “just another game”.  He played to win – and loved to play.  His speciality was sales and development – both nationally and internationally, in fields which included homebuilding, building products, finance and franchises.  He was a lifelong athlete with a great passion for tennis and golf.  He also loved to sing, whistle, tap dance in public and shake your hand until you thought it would fall off.  He always had a story to tell.

At the time of his passing, Bob was married to his partner of thirty six years, Dr. Barbara Skerry McFall.  They shared a passion for each other and for life that spanned many adventures in Houston TX, Phoenix AZ; Hydra Greece, Roanoke VA, Morgantown WV and Southport NC.  He and Barbara owned McFall’s Framing & Art Gallery and were proud to call Roanoke home for eighteen years.  Friends in Morgantown will remember Bob from his columns in the Dominion Post as a member of the Community Advisory Board, and as a realtor with Howard Hanna. Barbara was a professor in the Davis College, WVU.

Bob is survived by Barbara; his children, Larry McFall, Sandra Kamrath (Jack), Nancy Clay (Peter), Lisa Winston (Sheriff Mike Winston), LCDR Rob McFall (Lea); five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was an amazing husband and father and w
hether he was building a cabin in the woods, sitting by the ocean, playing rummy, or dining out, he lived fully and loved unconditionally.  Bob lived a life in Christian Science, and had a deep relationship with his God. He was a charter member of Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist Houston.

As a WWII veteran, it was Bob’s wish to have a military service at Arlington. Friends and family are invited to his Arlington service at a date still to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Lower Cape Fear SECU Hospice House, Brunswick County, NC (who took wonderful care of him).
